Sweet was a teenage music sensation during the 1970's.

She made her music debut on Akron Compilation, an album released by Stiff Records of England, dedicated to the 1970's music scence of Akron. Fool Around (1978) was her first solo album.

At one point, her style was described as "new wave country". Stiff Records initially even promoted her as a country act.

However, she made a definite shift towards "pop" soon thereafter.
