FAST FACTS:
Steinem's first writing job was with Esquire. She received her first by-line in 1962. Her writings would appear in a number of other magazines, including Glamour, McCall's, Life, and Cosmopolitan. Probably Steinem's most famous assignment was when she went undercover as a Playboy bunny in the New York Playboy Club. The article appeared in Show Magazine.
In 1968, New York magazine hired her as a contributing editor. During that same year, Steinem took on an active role in the women's movement. She helped found the National Women's Political Caucus in 1971 and Ms. magazine in 1972.
